The purpose of this report is to provide information to develop a safe and efficient design for a new grade crossing or effectively evaluate an existing grade crossing. The geometric design of new grade crossings should incorporate ideal conditions, such as flat approach grades, intersections at a right angle and adequate stopping and clearing sight distances appropriate to highway vehicle and train speeds. However, appropriate traffic control measures should be examined for use to mitigate conditions that are less than ideal. This book has been taken apart for individual paging.
