Additional Information / Summary:
This critical review and synthesis of literature prepared for the US Congress in 1985 concluded that improvements were safety-effective when very short sight distances are improved to provide very long sight distances. Also, because of potentially greater criticality of sight distance restrictions on horizontal curves compared to vertical curves, low-cost treatments such as clearing vegetation or other minor obstructions on the inside of horizontal curves or in intersection quadrants may be very cost-effective.
